Abstract

Civil Engineering is one of the oldest professions and has maintained its relevance over time by adapting to social, environmental, and technological challenges. Its fundamental role is to contribute to societal well-being through the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of essential infrastructure. In Mexico, rapid urban growth has led to a high demand for housing, basic services, and resilient infrastructure, posing a significant challenge for professionals in the field.

In this context, the education and training of civil engineers become strategically important. UPAEP’s Civil Engineering program has been updated to meet the current demands of the industry, incorporating technological tools such as BIM, specialized software, and key topics such as sustainability, energy efficiency, risk management, and resilience. Additionally, the program has expanded its academic offering with a master’s degree and a specialization in Construction Risk Engineering. This article provides a general overview of the academic program and its core knowledge areas, emphasizing the importance of educating engineers who are committed to the country’s comprehensive development.
