Statistic Control of the School Desertion Process in the Universities of Santander Department in Colombia

Abstract

In this paper it has been proposed the implementation of statistical and process control tools, subjecting the period desertion variable to the capacity indexes. Based on the periodic dropout rates, for each university in the department of Santander, it is possible to identify which of them present normal probability distribution. With the data that do not present it, we proceeded to apply the respective transformation through the goodness of fit test, identifying the appropriate distribution and transformation. Short and long term capacity indices were then applied to the periodic dropout rates of each university. The results show that most universities, despite being able to cope in the short term with the control of attrition capacity, do not achieve this in the long term. Strategies should be strengthened if capacity indices are to be improved and higher student retention rates.
