Significance of cooperatives in Mexico: Documentary analysis of the socioeconomic impact in rural communities

Abstract

This essay has the objective to expose the importance of cooperatives in Mexico has have along the years to impulse economic and social development and to determine the role that cooperatives have adopted to survive and the economic sectors where the cooperatives have bigger presence. This article starts with the background of the Mexican cooperative system and develops from the general to the particular, the analysis of the role that cooperatives have had and have on the economy of the country, doing a bibliography review. The main results are that the cooperatives have a transcendental role for the exploitation of economic activities where the central business is intrinsic in the community and is part of the identity of this; or in other words, where the cooperatives main activities are part of the community’s popular knowing and domain. In the same way, that the benefits are fairly distributed and strength the economic activity of the zone.
